Operation Varenna Intensification Week

Operation Varenna Intensification Week

Dear Residents,

This week saw your local ward team intensify its efforts under Operation Varenna, our ongoing initiative to target drug related criminality across Victoria & Pimlico.

From 19th – 23rd October, your local teams were supported by significant numbers of additional officers from proactive teams, deployed in plain clothes to patrol the key hotspots in the area. These included parts of Vauxhall Bridge Road, Wilton Road, Gillingham Row, and the streets surrounding Westminster Cathedral.

The week saw real operational success with the focus on late afternoons and evenings delivering some great results.

The headline numbers are as follows:

10 arrests for offences including Possession with Intent to Supply and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

60+ Stop & Searches, mostly under Section 23 of The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

10+ out of court disposals for offences such as Possession of a Controlled Substance.

This week's intensification disrupted the supply of drugs into the area and will send a strong message to all those who would seek to cause harm by distributing controlled substances in Victoria & Pimlico.

We will look to repeat the success of this week's initiative over the coming months, emphasising our commitment to tackle the issues that affect our communities the most.
